Security Insights: McAfee Featured on Army’s APL Mar 3, 2010 – By Tom Conway
By now you’ve heard about Operation
Aurora, a highly sophisticated and targeted attack on corporate
infrastructure of several large companies that resulted in the theft of
intellectual property. My colleague, George Kurtz, wrote a post on the
subject that delves deeper into the subject
here.
As George said, the world has changed, and everyone’s threat model now
needs to be adapted to the new reality of these advanced persistent threats.
Not just the Googles and the rest of the private sector world, but the
government and its counterparts, too. Luckily, the United States Army is
taking the steps to protect its valuable infrastructure by adding a
McAfee’s
Firewall Enterprise (Sidewinder) to its Approved Product List (APL).
By adding McAfee Network Security technology to its Approved Product List,
the Army has completed its comprehensive testing of the product and deemed
the it safe and secure for use by its personnel. McAfee Network Security
technologies are subject to various certification processes, including but
not limited to
Common Criteria, FIPS,
and DISA
testing to ensure they meet functionality requirements. Army APL
certification is a lengthy process,
but one that we here at McAfee take seriously. We develop innovative
technology with stringent certification tests in mind, allowing the DoD and
other other public sector offices to keep data their safe.
Sophisticated, multi-vector attacks like Operation Aurora are now more
pervasive and more difficult to detect than ever before, thanks in part to
the emergence of Web 2.0 and the rapid growth of the internet. Fortunately,
the U.S. Army has added a tool to its arsenal to safeguard its data in the
event of a cyber attack. There are solutions to current problems like
Operation Aurora, and those solutions are from McAfee.
